Room 1 Maths class - Ethnicity/Culture

My Interpretation

In this class more of the students are Samoan. Less people are Filipino. Tongan and other have the
same amount of people. Four people were Tongan or fitted under the other category. Other includes:
Indian, Canadian, European, and Chinese. The Samoan category has a total of eight people. The
Filipino category was the lowest. It has a total of two people. In this area (Mt Roskill) there are more
Pacific Islanders than other cultures, and also there is a big amount of Islanders that are Christian
(Catholic) that go to church here at Christ the King, so this could be some reasons why we have more
people that are Samoan than other Cultures.

Elephants

This is my presintation about Elephants. For reading in my class we had to do a presintation on Elephants and do a DLO (Digital learning object). First we had to make a Report on Elephants then we had to make it into a presintation, and I used Prezi. Click on the Image to get to my Elephant DLO

Values - Prayers

For Religious Education we had to make our own prayers of the faithful and we had to make it up and it had to be a prayer related to our four values. We also used The C.T.K Way poster to help us with our prayers and this is how my prayer of the faithfuls turned out.

Information Report on Elephants

Introduction
Elephants are the world’s largest mammals which are animals that have fur
and live on land. Indian and African Elephants don’t have a lot common.
African Elephants live in the continent of Africa and Indian Elephants also known as
Asian Elephants live in the continent of Asia. African Elephants are much bigger than
Asian Elephants. Baby Elephants are called calves and like all mammals they drink off
their mother's milk. They are also hairy.

Special Features
Elephants grow their tusks for their entire life. They use their tusks to dig and to fight with.
Elephants use their ears to cool off. They have poor eyesight but an amazing sense of
smell and hearing. Baby calf Elephants are 2-3 feet tall.

Diet
Elephants are herbivores that are animals that feeds on plants.
All Elephants eat twigs, bark, leaves and fruit. They eat more than their Appetite.
Elephants weigh upto 12,000 pounds and they drink upto 30 gallons of water everyday.

Family
There are two different types of Elephants which are African Elephants and Asian
Elephants. Male Elephants are called bulls. When the Male Elephants grow older they go
their separate ways and do things by themselves. African Elephants have wrinkly skin but
Indian Elephants don't have as much wrinkly skin as African Elephants do. The Indian Elephants
are much smaller than the African Elephants, they also have smaller ears and have a
hump back.

Endangerment
One hundred Elephants are killed per day, and there is up to one hundred Elephants
that are being slaughtered at least once a day. Indian Elephants population is on the tip
of the cliff for extinction. This is due to people killing the elephants to get their tusks for ivory,
then they trade the ivory to get money. If Elephants tusks break they can grow back,
only if the root of the Elephants tusks isn't damaged. Poaching is more aimed at Male
Asian Elephants because only the male elephants carry tusks that grow big. Poaching and
killing these Elephants is mostly done in Africa.

Conclusion
In my opinion I think Poaching should stop immediately, people should stop and think
before going and killing these animals. People need to think about this before killing
harmless animals/Elephants. We need to admire these beautiful and wonderful animals,
they do no harm to us so why kill them. The elephant population is under threat. In time we
will have no elephants to admire and view if this poaching does not stop.
