Should all shops be closed on ANZAC Day?

Hook
Why are all shops opened on Anzac Day? I think that all shops should be closed on April
25th on ANZAC day. In my opinion I think all shops should close because why work so
hard, when everyone else has a day off work to remember those who fought in the war.
Instead of working and making more money, people should be respectful and attend the
Anzac festivities. In this way we can remember all those men who died and served our
country New Zealand, and for those woman working in hospitals that had also died too.
I vehemently believe that all shops should be closed on ANZAC Day because this day is
very special to those whose family members have also died in war. Also ANZAC Day
should really be special to everyone because of the soldiers who fought in the war.
Most of the men and women had died for our country. They made us very proud to be
New Zealanders and they were the ones who represented our nation.

Pay their Respects to those who fought for our country
In my opinion, I think that people should pay their respects to those who fought and
died for New Zealand and other countries. Why would people want to even put effort
into going to work to get more money when they could go to ANZAC parades. People
working would miss out on a lot especially spending a whole day with their family
whether it’s at home or going out to parades, having fun, or even attending the dawn
services for ANZAC. I don’t know why retail owners expect their staff members to waste
their energy at work, when they all should have at least the day off work, because
ANZAC day is a day of remembrance, for showing respect not only to yourself but to
others. So I strongly agree that people should pay their respects and attend the dawn
services which start at 6.30AM or they could go to other ANZAC festivities.

War Research
The first world war started on July 28th 1914. Around that time Australia had been
under the control for the British empire for thirteen years, and New Zealand for seven
years. ANZAC stands for Australia, New Zealand Army Corps. The ANZACs were
brave soldiers who stood, fought, and died for our country. The ANZACs landed on
the Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25th. The soldiers knew that winning was impossible,
but they continued fighting for eight months. In 1916, they made April 25th the day these
heroes were to be remembered for everything they had done for our country, and
for committing to being brave soldiers. The first dawn service was on ANZAC Day in
1923. More than 11,000 ANZACs died at Gallipoli and more than 23,500 were
wounded. In Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands and Niue, ANZAC Day is also special to
them so they honour their soldiers who participated to the campaign. The
symbol Poppy came from Canadian man John McCrea’s World War 1 poem.

Family
In my strong opinion I think that people should not work on ANZAC Day because
it’s a day of remembrance not a day to work and get more money. People would
rather work that go to dawn services and pay their respects to all those who
participated in war and fought for our country. This is just outrageous how retail
management are getting their staff to work on a day that is special to those families
whose relatives may have died during World War 1 or World War 2. I think people
should just stay home for the day or even go out to dawn services for ANZAC Day.
People could spend time with their family members on ANZAC Day if they don’t want
to go to the ANZAC events. I vehemently believe that all shops should not be open on
ANZAC Day because it’s a time to remember those who fought in the war.

Conclusion
Overall, ANZAC is a Day of remembrance. Remembering those who stood, fought,
and died for our nation. Plenty of men and woman have died for our country, so people
should pay their respects to all those who are no longer with us.

Aiulu's Journey - Nana

Aiulu is from Asau in Samoa and her mother gave birth to her in her at
her own home in Samoa in her village in 1955. She came to New Zealand
on April 12 1980. she got sent here by her Grandad that she grew up with
her Grandad sent her here to have a better life and make her own little
family here in New Zealand. She came her to New Zealand to work and to
help out her family living in Samoa. She did have family here so she came
here to live with them and to find a good job.

Aiulu arrived here by plane and she came from Samoa straight to Auckland
New Zealand, where some of her family where living. She ended up staying
in Auckland upon her arrival and then ended up living in Auckland ever
since. Aiulu thought that the people were very friendly towards her. She
said that New Zealand was more easier to get a job than Samoa. In Samoa
it was quite hard to find a good job and get good money to help her family.
Her family were poor and my Nana had quite a lot of siblings. She was
home sick when she arrived and she really missed her family in Samoa a
lot. My Nana thinks that her home now is both Samoa and New Zealand.
She got married here and had kids, but she'll never forget her birthplace or
her family in Samoa.

Aiulu really missed the food, fun, life, and family and friends in Samoa.
She she has been back to Samoa with her whole family to go and see her
mum, and her family that are in Samoa. She can’t wait to go back again.
She misses everything in Samoa, mostly her family and her parents which
have both sadly died. They are buried in Samoa.
